The Willows spent their morning learning about bird nests and creating their own! Before we got started, we read Bird Builds a Nest by Martin Jenkins. We learned that birds intertwine their nest materials to make them strong and they use their bodies to push the sides of the nest out for their eggs to fit. To understand what "intertwine" meant, we practiced putting our hands together and wrapping our fingers tightly together.
Some friends spent some time looking closely at a real nest and documenting their findings before they moved onto creating their own with air-dry clay and our found materials from our walk! The Willows were so careful to shape their nests into "cups" and intertwine the popsicle sticks and other materials together to ensure their nests were stable and strong!
