"The nest shares love" -MW

After listening to the children talk about nests and birdhouses yesterday we decided to show them a real birds nest! The kids were so excited to see it sitting on the table! During our morning meeting we talked with the kids about where we see bird nests.

Here's how our conversation evolved:

CG: Birds nests are in trees or garages. We had a bird nest in our garage.

WN: trees so no one gets the eggs

LuS: we made a bird nest with clay

LaS: one time I saw a bird's nest in a tree

MW: If you see a bird's nest in the tree you shouldn't touch it

WN: We don't want to touch their happy home

JaS: I have a bird's nest at my house and it's kind of little. I climbed up and saw the eggs and they were white!

HL: birds hide their nests in trees to hide from coyotes. Coyotes are meat eaters.

SB: One day I made a nest from craft sticks and glue

JeS: I have a bird's nest at my house and the eggs opened

LB: a bird is making a nest at my house

BH: my mommy closed my window so a bird doesn't come in

Those were some great thoughts! After our meeting we invited the children to explore with nests, create their own nests, work on messaging their friends, play with magnets, create with small world, and pretend in our new home space! It was a great day!

After we cleaned up for the morning we had another discussion about what we noticed when investigating the real nest and here's how that conversation went:

JaS: there's mud inside of the nest

FJ: the mud was stabling the sticks to connect them together

SB: it was brown, the sticks are brown

BH: the nest was brown

CL: some sticks are white

HA: sticks are on the inside and on the outside

WN: there's lines on it

LuS: there's lines and brown-ness

MW: the nest has lines on it; the nest shares love
