There is something truly special about opening our classroom doors and inviting our Spruce and Dogwood friends to come and play. Today, we welcomed our friends to join us for a morning filled with exploration, creativity, and collaboration. The room buzzed with excitement as children moved freely between spaces, discovering new materials and engaging alongside each other.

One area that captured a lot of attention was our light projection area. Using a projector, the children experimented with light, color, and shadows. They placed different objects in front of the light, noticing how shadows changed shape and size. Transparent materials created beautiful overlays of color, sparking conversations about what happens when colors mix. The wonder on their faces as they manipulated light and watched their discoveries unfold was amazing!
The sensory table was filled with sand, strainers, and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Children sifted and searched, developing fine motor skills and persistence as they carefully shook the strainers to reveal small objects.
At one point, two JaS and BH began pretending that the sand falling through the strainers was rain. They held the strainers high and watched the sand pour down, narrating a dramatic rainstorm and adjusting their movements to make the “rain” fall faster or slower. Their imaginative play added a whole new layer of meaning to the sensory experience.
We explored with the X builders as we continue to think about our line study in the Willow Room. The children created vertical, horizonal, and all over buildings!
Our light table became a place to explore with mganets and featured a large metal archway, which quickly became a hub of investigation. Children tested which materials would stick, experimented with balance and placement, and worked together to design creations.
Nearby, we offered a small world invitation. Carefully arranged loose parts and figures encouraged storytelling and imaginative play. Children collaborated to build scenes, create narratives, and problem-solve together. It was wonderful to observe how naturally they shared ideas and expanded on one another’s thinking.
Inviting other classrooms to join us not only expands our learning environment but also strengthens our sense of community. Through shared experiences, children build friendships, practice communication, and learn from one another in meaningful ways.
We are so proud of the creativity, curiosity, and collaboration we witnessed. We look forward to many more opportunities to learn and play together!
