Throughout the week we’ve been noticing so many changes happening all around us, with the biggest change being that the leaves are turning colors! During our morning meeting, we read a book about how and why leaves change and shared our own observations about what we’ve seen on the trees in our neighborhood and at the forest!
Inspired by our discussion, the children created color sorting boards for green, yellow, red, orange, and brown. Then we took them outside for a walk to see what colors we could find in nature. The children looked closely, noticing the tiny details of each leaf before taping it to the board that matched its color.
As we worked, the children compared shades, talked about their discoveries, and wondered what might happen to the leaves next. Our color boards became a celebration of the season and a reminder of how nature invites us to look closely and notice change.
