As we continue to study artists and explore the many ways art can be created, we’ve been learning that illustrators are artists too! This morning we read Bluebird by Bob Staake, a beautiful story told entirely through pictures. Without any words, we were able to follow the emotions and events just by observing the illustrations.
After reading, we wondered could we tell our own stories using only pictures? The children used dry erase boards with black frames (just like in the book!) and wiki sticks to illustrate their own picture stories. Some friends created brand new stories, while others chose to retell the story of Bluebird in their own way.
It was so inspiring to see how each child’s story unfolded through lines, shapes, and imagination proving that art can speak volumes, even without words.

The drawn lines on our dry erase boards were getting frustrating because they kept erasing so we decided to try tape as our boarder instead! Great problem solving!

We asked:
Can you make the table a mural?
One friend said with a big smile on her face, "wait you mean we can write ON the table?!"
It was very exciting, haha!
We continued our work with the shades and tints of blue with our playdough work!
"I made a racecar!"
"Mines a racecar too! Look at the fast wheels."
We worked with light, color, and design at a table.
And we spent time building on our block space. We have some friends really interested in trains so added them to our invitation this morning to see what they would make! It turned into quite the cityscape!
