After our wonderful conversation about what it means to be an artist, and following last week’s color-mixing explorations, we turned our attention to stained glass windows.
Last week, the children experimented with mixing colors on Saran Wrap at the light table. They were fascinated by how the colors shone through the clear surface, and together we wondered: How could we transform this into something even more beautiful?
This curiosity led us to introduce the idea of stained glass. To bring the concept to life, we took a walk to visit the two churches on Lockwood so the children could see stained glass windows in person. What an inspiration! The children eagerly sketched what they observed on their clipboards, carefully adding colors and lines as they worked.
It was a joyful trip filled with wonder, creativity, and new ideas. We can’t wait to see where this inspiration leads us next!
This morning we read Maybe Something Beautiful by Theresa Howell and Isabel Campoy, a story about how art can brighten a whole community. The children loved the idea and began imagining how their art could bring beauty to others. They even connected it to our stained glass explorations, wondering what it might look like to combine the two!
To spark more inspiration, we walked to see the mural on the hardware store. The children were fascinated, and this new idea of murals has us excited to see where their creativity will take us next.
