Last week we noticed that the children were making interesting patterns with our loose parts. We decided to introduce them to the idea of a mandala! We saw some beautiful creations as a result of our mandala invitations so we thought we would talk more about patterns this week! This morning we played a game called "pattern train" where the children helped create a giant pattern using two colors!
We also listened to a pattern song that you can listen to at home if you want to through this link:
Then we headed out to look for patterns in our community!
Check out what we found!
GW: Look, look its a line and then nothing, a line and then nothing!
PK: The fence has lines and a loop, they're all over!
DL: Look the sidewalk is a pattern, it's a big square and a line!
AH: The street is a pattern! It's white and then black, white and black!
CL: There's a pattern on the flag. Red, white, red, white, red, white!
FJ: The leaf is a pattern! The sides match!
HL: This goes out and in, out and in, out and in!
GW: My fingernails are a pattern!
WN: The bench has a pattern!
LS: The can is blue, black, blue, black, blue, black.
This is our favorite pattern that we found! The kids were super pumped to find the blue and white tiles in front of this business!
The cones shared their pattern with us and then the kids noticed this fence!
Patterns were so easy to find and the children were so excited to share their findings with us, we wonder where else we could find patterns!!!
We also had to stop and say hi to the chickens!
We had a lot of friends saying "bagawk" and "cock a doodle do" to them!
Be Happy, Be Kind
Look for patterns with your children and let us know what you find!!!
