Knowledge is something that the children construct in their every day work and play. They begin with a little seed of curiosity that we, as the teachers, are able to connect to new ideas and provocations to extend that learning. While walking around Ambrose you may hear someone reference the "third teacher". In Reggio schools the environment is the "third teacher" and we follow that same thought process here at Ambrose! As we consider the "third teacher" we think about beautiful image that we hold of children as well as how the environment is responsive to their curiosities, interests, ideas, and their avenues of exploration.
As we have watched your children work and play in our classroom during this first month of school we have noticed quite a bit of play and curiosity surrounding the idea of food, kitchen, and family. This is a very natural play schema for children to engage in, they love to pretend play with the ideals that they are familiar with. Today we worked with the children to do a little bit of rearranging. We moved our quiet space to the front of the room and moved our big table to the corner so that the children could begin to delve into this family and food play schema!
