Planning A Party for Butterflies

A simple invitation was placed on the floor this morning with the question:
What designs can you make?
Children moved back and forth, looking at the colorful pieces.
And then MM began putting two pieces on the edge of a center round piece.
She said, "look at these beautiful butterflies. We have to make lots of butterflies, we'll have a butterfly party."
And so the planning of a butterfly party began!

ET joined but wasn't quite sure how to put the pieces together.
She asked MM how to do it, MM shared her secrets.
"You have to have three circles, then you put two on the sides like wings."
"I did it!"

MM asked to tell her friends about her plans for a party.
So at morning meeting she shared her butterflies with everyone.
She said, "We are going to have a party for the butterflies, we need lots of butterflies and we need some invitation."
HS said, "we should make decorations."
MM said, "oh, yeah we can do that!"
After meeting some new friends came back to work with MM and her butterflies.
DC said, "I'm going to make a rainbow of butterflies."
MM and HS went to work on making decorations for the party.
MM said, "I have an idea, let's connect them. Then they can fly together."

MM said, "We need candy, food, party hats, cake, cookies, popsicles, and lots of people."
HS said, " I am making popsicles."
MM said, "flying is my dream."
She then connected some more of the butterflies and said, "they're holding hands."
In the video below you can see MM thinking this through.
In the video below the girls continue their discussion on decorations.

Decorations began with making crowns for each other.

And then MM went to the paper atelier to think more about invitations.
We decided that we will work on invitations tomorrow!
MM said, "we need to make invitations, everyone needs an invitation!"
HS said, "maybe tomorrow we can learn how to make a butterfly on paper."
We'll see what tomorrow brings as we continue our plans for the butterfly party!
