What will happen if....

What will happen if we put water outside?
What will happen if we add baking soda to the water?
What will happen if we mix baking soda and vinegar?

Today we found out the answers to these questions and many more! Check it out!
Yesterday after noon we were talking about the cold weather and we wondered what would happen if we put water outside. So we decided to try an experiment! We put colored water and baking soda in some ice trays and put them outside to see what would happen.
"What do you think will happen if we put water outside?"
"It's going to get cold."
"Why is it going to get cold?"
"Because it's so cold, it's freezing!"
"Ya, the water is going to freeze!"

"I can't wait to see it get frozen!"
"Do you think the baking soda will freeze too?"
"Oh yeah, it's so cold outside. It's all going to get frozen!"
"This is the perfect spot because there's no sunshine on it. The sunshine melts the snow."
"The sun is too hot, it will melt the ice."

The video below is the children running outside to check on our trays!
They were very excited to see what happened!

"It feels so cold!"
"Look at the baking soda, it is a different color."
"It's melting!"

"It's sizzling!"
"Mines sizzling too!"
"Mines almost gone!"
"It's wearing off."
"It's sizzling."
"It's smooshy."
"The vinegar is sizzling."

"Mine is fizzling."
"Why do you think it's fizzling?"
"I think the vinegar is making the ice cube fizzle."

"It's almost disappearing. It goes away so fast."
"It's magic!"
"Look, mine is so little. It's almost gone."
"It's bubbling!"
"The vinegar is making it bubble. Look at all of the little bubbles!"
"It's getting little and little."
"They're melting. It's warm in here."
"What's happening?"
"What do you think is happening?"
"It's melting. The ice is melting!"
"It's ice, they're like water rocks. It feels so good!
This was quite the exploration! The kids loved every minute of it!
