We had such a beautiful and busy day. The morning began with friends checking up on our butterflies. They were excited to see that they were fluttering about inside their home. WK asked if we could open the top and let them out now. He's excited to see them fly! We talked about releasing them perhaps tomorrow before heading to the forest as the weather is supposed to be a bit warmer. We can't wait to see them fly!
WK - It's standing still like a statue!
ZG - His wings are open and the colors are orange and black!
FD - It's drinking water from the strawberries.
We moved the butterflies to the table so that we could take a closer look. WM wanted to use the magnifying glasses to get even a closer look at them. Shortly afterwards JD came over to observe and then he began drawing the butterflies. The friends talked about the colors of the butterflies, how beautiful they were and how awesome it's going to be when they are released.
A new provocation was set up on the light table with 2 large vases, along with water colors and the following question "what do you notice?" As the children dropped the water colors slowly into each vase they watched as the colors floated down, down, down and began noticing what was happening. Check it out!
WK - It's so big, I made a ring!
JD - Oh my! It's a ginormous yellow blob!
ZG - Whoa! That looks like a color explosion!
ZW - It's two shades of red!
FD - Wow ZW, you made a total long one and it's slowly floating down!
WK - How did you make it like that WM?
WM - It's a rainbow and it's gonna explode.
FD - Oh look at this! Red, blue, green.
We headed out to our zone and immediately the children noticed how much the leaves and branches had spread out. JD said they were as long as an elephant's trunk and FD said they were wider than an elephant's trunk. They were also intrigued by the street workers again! This time they were closer and we had the opportunity to stand at the fence and check them out.
These two really liked watching the workers!
