Last week we were noticing all of the beautiful changes happening in our environment. We were especially excited to see all of the gorgeous flowers that are blooming. The children noticed that not only are flowers blooming on the ground but also in the trees!
Today we created a way to save some of this amazing nature so that we could bring it into our classroom! We made salt dough together and then took it outside to decorate with flowers and leaves from our zone. We will let the salt dough dry and then hang our fantastic creations in the classroom!
First we had to make the salt dough! Everyone wanted to be a part of this process!
We measured 4 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 1/2 cup of water.
We talked about how to measure using a measuring cup. We have to make sure that the ingredient goes all the way to the top of the cup but not over it! The kids did a great job scooping and measuring!!!
We gave our dry ingredients a good mixing before we added water.
And then we took turns mixing it all up. Once it got to hard to stir we used our hands!
Time to flatten it out!
Once it was flattened out we used a cup to make our circles and a straw to make a hole for us to hang it from once the dough is dry!
Then we headed outside to add pieces of nature to our dough!
"I love these purple flowers."
"I want to add leaves, do you think there's any clover over here?"
Our final product turned out beautiful! We will let the dough dry overnight and then add some modge podge to it to keep it strong. We'll show you the final product as soon as it's ready!
