We were so excited to check on our caterpillars this morning!
Immediately we noticed that they looked a little bit bigger. We wondered how big they might get?
When I asked the children about how big they thought they would get they said:
As big as a worm!
As big as my finger!
Maybe only like half my finger.
I've seen a caterpillar and they don't get that big, they have to be a butterfly and butterflies aren't that big!
I guess we'll have to wait and see. We used a ruler to try to measure what we saw so hopefully that will help the kids see the difference over the next few days!
Here's our drawings based on our observations today! We decided that we are going to take each day's drawings and create a book all about how our caterpillars grew into butterflies!
We have some friends that have interested in dinosaurs so we made a dinosaur habitat for the kids to explore with! They loved it!
We worked on cleaning up our cardboard neighborhood this morning as well. We have noticed that the children haven't been playing in this space, even with added provocations so it was time to clean it up! They did a great job deciding on what needed to be recycled and what they wanted to take home.
(Just a heads up some children wanted to take a lot of their cardboard creations home!)
I asked the children what their vision for this space was and they immediately wanted it to become a restaurant. We put the legs back on the table top that we used for our neighborhood, added the plates, and pots and pans. They went around the room and gathered flower pots to "add beauty". There is a book on our shelf called Firebird that the children love so they decided to name the restaurant Firebird and we put the book on the shelf in the restaurant!
The girls went to work making menus and food for the restaurant!
Once some menus were made ZG took peoples orders and brought them food! ZW wanted to be the chef so she put on the apron and went to work cooking!
We needed a place to type in peoples orders so I gave the kids an old computer screen to work with! They loved it! We will continue working on this tomorrow!!!
We had a really nice time outside today, too!
We took the sensory table with dinosaurs outside!
And we looked for more bugs! We wondered if we might find some caterpillars outside!
We didn't find any caterpillars but we found some awesome worms!
We had such an amazing day!
We can't wait to see how the big the caterpillars grow
and we can't wait to continue our work on our new restaurant space!
