What a fabulous day we had in Willow! The kids were eager to learn, play, and be super friends today and it was amazing!
This mornings invitations included a space to create and tell stories by making their own books. The question associated with this space is "What makes a story?" We talked about the different parts of a story and then some friends went to work writing their own!
This friend finished her book and wrote "the end".
AC said, "I wrote T A X. It's a story about Godzilla!"
We took our story writing outside too.
"I'm writing about my mom."
Once we got back inside the children that wanted to read their stories to their friends got the chance to do so. Everyone sat so nicely and listened to each others stories, such an amazing job!!!
"My story is about Godzilla and baby Godzilla."
"My story is about things that make you feel hopeful and use your imagination."
"I wrote a story about cats, cats are my favorite."
"My story is called Book. In my book things change or act like something different."
During our morning time we continued to explore with playdough. Friends worked on all kinds of creations!
"I made a circle."
"We're making a gingerbread man. Mine has a belly button!"
It was a glorious (and a little chilly) day to be outside! While some friends were working on books, others found something interesting in the dirt...
"Ms. Beth, Ms. Beth! We found a beetle! There's a beetle in the dirt!!!"
"We're gonna give it some grass."
"I'm gonna make him a house."
"We're gonna make some pathways for the beetle to walk on. He can come over to the leaves or go over to his house."

In the video below you can see how mesmerized the kids were all morning watching the beetle crawl around the space that they created for it!
As we got ready to go inside for the lunch the children worried about the beetle eating lunch. They asked if they could save some bread from their lunch to bring out to the beetle! Of course I said yes and that's just what we did!
JD saved some bread from his lunch (he also saved some carrot but that got lost along the way).
When we got outside the children excitedly ran to the snail to check on the beetle and give him his piece of bread!
We couldn't see the beetle but we know he's there!
"The beetle probably is sleeping in the dirt house we made him. He'll be hungry later."
"Ya, we need to leave him the bread, let's put it in the middle so he finds it."
I sure hope that beetle enjoys the home, pathways, and lunch that we left for him because we sure enjoyed creating a loving space for him!
