We had a beautiful day at the forest today! Before we left we looked at our nature book and talked about the things that we might see. One of the friends excitedly yelled out, "the forest is nature!" This led to a lively discussion about what we might see and what we might want to collect!
Here's our list of things that we thought we might find in the forest:
FD: leaves
ZG: sticks and bugs
AC: acorns
JD: trees
FD: pinecones
JG: worms
WM: squirrels
JD: lots of animals, maybe a bunny
We couldn't believe it but we saw a worm way before we even got to the forest! Ms. Katie walked with us and picked it up for the kids to check out! We loved seeing how it moved in her hands and some friends were brave enough to touch it!
Into the forest we go!
Before we left for the forest we talked about collecting some items from the forest. We brought bags so we could bring back anything that we found. We also brought empty plastic bottles with us. In our nature book it talked about making music in the forest and different ways to do that. One of the ways was to make nature shakers, so we brought our bottles and looked for things to put into our bottles in order to make our own nature music!
The shakers are fantastic! It was great to see the children decide what to put into their bottles. JD had several sticks in his bottle and ZG had mostly leaves in her bottle. They shook them at the same time and noticed that they sounded different. JD said it was because the sticks make more sound than the leaves! We'll keep working on them, we love making music with nature!
We will always climb in the forest and be grateful for the amazing branches that nature has given us to climb in!
And who doesn't love a giant stick!
JG: This is a BIG stick!
