After a rainy day yesterday we were pretty excited to get back outside today! We headed out to the playscape to check out a new zone and it was amazing! Our zone this morning included the big outdoor blocks, sand, some amazing trees, and the big tree trunk! Check out what we did:
The big blocks were an instant hit! It was also interesting to see a lot of friendships already being built! These girls worked on their structure for a better part of our morning. I listened as they expressed their thoughts and opinions on how their structure should be built and I was amazed at the amount of compromising that went on! In the end they made a boat train. It is half boat and half train (later they talked about it being an airplane too!).

These two children had a friendship forged in the Acorn room and it is going strong in Willow! They took turns placing blocks on their structure, even negotiating where each piece should go. I asked them about what they were making and they really weren't sure but it seemed to be going to plan!
These friends started off on a snail hunt. They wanted to overturn every rock that they saw!
They decided that they needed to make a home for any potential snails that they would find so they collected leaves and filled the bug catcher with water.
I think any snail would love to live in there, how about you?!
The big tree trunk was a fast favorite too! Immediately these friends notice that bark had fallen off of the tree and they wondered what happened. Some ideas were that lightening had struck it, the rain washed it off, and that a big giant tore all of the bark off with his hands!
We wondered what the lines in the tree were from. The most popular thought was that they came from worms! The children also noticed that some of the bark had moss on it. WK said that his grandma told him that!
The children wondered if they could make the bark "crack". They threw pieces of it at the trunk to see what would happen and were excited each time a piece would "crack"!
We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
