The Tale of Some Snails

Happy Friday Willow Families! This has been such a fun week!!! Today we spent quite a bit of time on the playscape enjoying this amazingly beautiful weather! We were in Zone 3 which is where the slide and the rock pit are located. We brought out our big wagon filled with materials but they weren't needed because we found some snails and that became the excitement of the day for some of our friends! Here's what happened:

AC found a hole in the ground and in that hole there were.... You guessed it! Snails!!! He quietly and gently collected a handful (yes I said a handful) of snails and began walking around to his friends saying, "I found snails, look I found snails!"

His friends were very interested in his discovery!
And wanted to go see if they could find more! So off they went to explore deeper into this magical snail hole!

As luck would have it there were more snails in the hole (and a worm)!
They put their snails in a container so they could build them a home. They decided that the best space to make the home was in the rock pit. Their building was simple at first and only used pots and pans but as the children continued to explore they found more materials to make the snails the best home that they could!
They were also very interested in feeding the snails. I asked them what they thought snails ate and they said:
AC "they like the rocks probably because it makes their shell harder"
WK "they want to eat this piece of wood, it's good for them"
After getting the food ready they went back to building their snail house. Now they added tubes, pieces of wood, and cardboard. Nothing but the best for these snails!

Throughout the morning we talked about being gentle with the snails and we discussed that they were living beings and we had to treat them kindly. Once it was time to go inside we talked about what to do the with snails. We decided the the kindest thing to do would be to put them back in their home where we found them. The children were very sweet playing with the snails, we will see where this leads in the future!

Some other fun that was had on the playscape included:
Up Slide! What's up slide you ask? Not much what's up with you?
Just kidding, up slide is when we let the kids go up the slide instead of going down!
We also went down the slide and we love to be a train going down the slide!
We climbed on the climbing wall and we are getting really good at it by the way!
We did some rock collecting to see how much we could fit in our pockets and as WM put it "there's a lot of rocks in there!"

We also made some amazing designs with our puzzle blocks! There was some major balancing going on here!!!

We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!
Be Happy, Be Happy, Be Kind, Be Kind
