Lights, Shadows and More

Happy Friday Families!  What a really exciting day it has been! We had our last Caper day of the year today and what a Great time the children had exploring the languages in each of the rooms.  As you know, Willow room is exploring the language of Light and Shadow, Acorn is exploring Water, Seedling is exploring Sculptures and Sycamore is exploring Photography.  As you will see our Shadow exploration is always a place where children love to make creative shadow movements as they listen and dance to music.  In the first few pictures below the children are working together to make Christmas tree shadows and their bodies into presents.  It's always fascinating to see how they transform their movements and to capture all the joy behind the scenes.  It is truly magical!

This little friend from Seedling is curious as to what the friends behind the curtain are doing so, he takes a flashlight and bends just a little to take a closer look at the shadows appearing before him.
In these pictures above the same friend uses his light to follow the light of one of our Willow friends and they both enjoy exploring together following each other's lights.
This Willow friend giggles behind the curtain as he moves the light forward as notices that the farther he is away the light gets bigger and as he moves closer he sees that the light appears smaller and begins to giggle.  He comes from behind the curtain and asks me "Did you see me?"  He goes back behind the curtain and begins making shadows using the flashlight as a prop.  After a few moments another Willow friend comes in and begins dancing and making shadows.  The friend decided he wanted to watch the other friend and used the flashlight to follow her shadow.  Where ever she moved, he moved with her.

We added prisms and this friend enjoyed exploring at the table with them.

These friends also enjoyed making tall towers with the blocks and challenged themselves to see how high they could make them before they would fall over.

We enjoyed some snacks and a story before lunch!  Please enjoy your time with family over the holiday break and we look forward to seeing everyone in the new year!  Happy Holidays Everyone!
