What is a shadow?

This morning we decided to caper since the kids won't be here on Friday!
We asked the question:

What is a shadow?
MD: So like the sun and when you get in the middle of the sun it blocks the sun.
CS: The darker the light, the bigger the shadow.
CM: The Earth rotates around the sun.
CS: When it's not sunny you can't make a shadow.
CK: It's something that's really a lot of light like the sun and then it's like your shadows on your ground.
CS: Trees and other things can make shadows. Even houses when they're really big and in the sunlight can make a shadow.

The children's responses were amazing and insightful. They thought really hard about where shadows come from and how they are made. We then excitedly danced making shadows and explore with light and color on the light projector! It was a great morning in Willow!
