A day of firsts!

We were excited to celebrate our first birthday of the year and we took our first walk of the year!

How do we celebrate birthdays, you ask? Well, each year we talk with the children about how they want to celebrate their birthdays. This year many of our returning children were excited about the idea of continuing to paint/decorate canvases and then hanging them in the room like we had last year. We were lucky enough to have 20 canvases donated to our classroom last year by our wonderful families so they will be used for this years birthday celebrations in Willow! We also sing and have a dance party for the birthday child! It's great fun and we hope you enjoy seeing everyone's birthday celebration throughout the year! Let us know if you have any questions!

We want to wish the happiest of birthdays to our friend Joey!
He chose to have on friend help him decorate his canvas. He chose to use the "squirty" paint, sequins, and glue! It's one beautiful canvas!

We also went on our first walk of the school year. We strolled around our neighborhood, saw Bell (the neighbors very sweet dog), checked out the forest, and found some acorns on the ground! It was a very exciting walk!

Bell was so happy to see us! She rolled right over so we could all rub her belly!

We made a stop at the forest! We will be picking our forest day soon and then making weekly trips to explore. We'll let you know what our forest day is as soon as we know!
We found lots of acorns on the sidewalk by the front of the forest! We collected quite a few of them to take back to our room to add to our loose parts!

We sat outside of the forest for a bit, taking it all in! We asked the kids what they noticed about the forest? They said:

It has lots of trees.
There's all kinds of sticks.
There's bugs in there!
We can hear the birds.
Last year we saw a bunny in the forest!

We can't wait to make our way into the forest soon and see what the kids notice then!
