The kids started making maps as soon as they got to school this morning! Once we noticed that we decided to print a couple of different kinds of real maps for the kids to use as inspiration. We put those on the table and let the kids create their own maps!
"There's a house in the middle, you have to get to the house."
"There's a puppy on the road! We have to get to the puppy so he can go to his mommy."
"The cars have to drive on the white part, it's the road."
"It gets you to the houses."
"I'm making rainbow maps."
"The grocery store is right here."
"This is how you get to my house."
We also set up a projector to see what it looks like from the driver's perspective on the road. The kids decided to use chairs to pretend they were cars!
"The mommy and daddy sit in the front, the kids sit in the back."
We did some loose part designs
A group went to work in the collaboratory as well. They made roads out of the big blue blocks.
"This is Elm St. and it goes to Lindbergh and this is the Elm Bridge."
"This is my home." and "These are our homes!"
"We are going to our homes."
Our favorite question of the day!
Why is the sun shining but it's cold?
