Tuesday's Discoveries

We came back to the potion we created yesterday.  Our attempt to make "bubbly cloud dough that explodes" did not work out like the children had hoped.  We noticed that today the potion was "goopy" and "too watery to be cloud dough."  It had "lots of goo on the bottom," which we identified as the flour we used. We took turns shaking the jug to see what would happen.  The result:  orange water leaking out of the container!  We decided to pour out the contents to examine it closely.  The children felt the mixture and discovered it felt "slimy" but decided it would not work as cloud dough.

Back in the classroom, we mixed flour and baking soda with colored vinegar to see if we would get a reaction.  We discovered that mixing flour with colored vinegar did not produce a reaction.  "The flour turned blue and gooey," but nothing "cool" happened.  When we mixed the vinegar with baking soda, we got a different result.  It "exploded" and "bubbled up."
